In Spring 2019, I was approached by Assante from The Friend Zone to co-produced, engineer and edit his latest show (at the time) If I Were A Rapper. His vision for the show was to make it an audio variety show with all the bells and whistles. I was down for the challenge as it forced me to sharpen my audio tech skills. That year we cranked out a few practice runs, talked marketing & strategy and with Loud Speakers Network approval we launched the show in May 2019 . We released 12 episodes. I am so thankful that I had this opportunity as it pushed me to familiarize myself with Adobe Audition and other kinds of audio tools.
This was one of my favorite episodes, remember when Drake revealed his very own “jet” lol. Trust, I had a ball recording this episode with Kid Fury from The Read and Assante’s The Friends Zone co-host, Dustin Ross. As the recording engineering I had to overcome some technical difficulties during this session, but what’s new? We had a ball working on the skits/commercials we created titled, “Air Drake.”
But to be honest, I get the most joy from working on this project when I was alone with just me, the DAW and the sound waves. It took about 2-4 hours to record these episodes and about 7 - 12 hrs to edit them. Being the sound designer and engineer gave me the opportunity the sit down with Dwayne Crawford and pick-up some sound editing tricks on Adobe Audition.
