How Press-On Nails Gave Me Life

How Press-On Nails Gave Me Life

As much as you love your family, there are many moments when you just need a break from them all! I'm not sure if it was the series of questions about me getting married from my mom or my little cousins trying to roast my style and creativity, but I found myself pulling on my edges out-of frustration.

I needed an award, or something to keep me calm in the midst of this family storm. I was also on a tight budget since I'm preparing to go to Cuba in a few weeks, so what could I do? I couldn't treat myself to a spa date, or pay for a new hairdo, shoot I couldn't even go on an after-Christmas shopping spree (too broke for that).

I hopped into the car and drove to Walgreens (aka Duane Reade) to get away from the madness. As I was perusing the cosmetic section, I came across imPress Manicure nails set. I remember Tracey Clayton, Buzzfeed writer and Another Round podcast host, mentioned how she always turns to this brand whenever she has a big event to attend, but couldn't make into the shop.

I saw the color and fell in love. I rushed home and hired one of my little cousins to be my nail technician, and together we assembled my full set. For less than $10 I found myself transformed into a new person like the Sabrina right before she turns into Sailor Moon.

Applying the Impress was a breeze even though I had a helper. Their nails have a glue gel underneath it, which was somewhat strong. I like the fact that when you feel the nail is getting flimsy, you can just press down on it and the adhesive begins to stick a little stronger.

Something about having your nails done truly gives me joy. I am always full of confidence, strength and femininity when I have a cute polish or design on my 10 fingers. A person hands is an extension of their heart, they both need to be treated with care.

I came to this realization during the summer of 2015. I attended Marcus Graham Project advertising boot camp. It was a very stressful 12 weeks of my life. I had to deal with my "teammates" and "clients" like Beats, PepsiCo and Usher Raymond's non-profit New Look. I would pay $50 every 2 weeks to get my nails done, and it gave me peace and serenity as I sat at the nail shop away from the chaos in our office. This feeling would stay with me even when I returned. In the middle of typing up a quick email, I would find myself appreciating the glitter from my finger tips. It would put a  smirk on my face, and I would type even faster. But when I would look at my bank account, I would frown.

That is why imPress Manicure is a happy middle point for me. I am not a "I need my nails done every other week" type of chick (honestly, I can't afford that lifestyle in NYC).

imPress nails is a great temporary award, when you want to add to your natural glamour. It was nice for the first day, but after washing you hands cause I was serving people food, or running into the shower before heading to the club, these nails needed super glue. lol. I rocked my press on until I left Florida. I dare not to step into rugged, raw and ratched New York City with them still on. I truly enjoyed them while they lasted... or should I say while they sticked lol.
