In honor of Haitian Independence Day...
Because I have the realest best friend in the world, Bria Davis inspired me to create this post. Today for many of us is "New Years Day," but for Haitians, today we celebrate our country's independence.
On Jan. 1, 1804 the blacks and creoles slaves organized the first successful revolt against their European owners, the French, and claimed their freedom. The Haitian Revolution is a story full of blood, magic and the stride for equality and abolishing the whips and chains that oppressed the natives and Africans.
Today many Haitians celebrate by eating pumpkin soup a.k.a "yellow soup," drinking Cremas (an eggnog and rum drink) and partying. My homegirl decided to pay homage to such a groundbreaking country by imaging the perfect historic fiction movie. I decided to appoint myself as her casting director halfway through it, to give her more creative inspiration of course.
