2016 Review
This year was differently a lesson learned for my personal life. I experienced life after the big win. I finally landed a job in advertising in New York City. What else could I ask for?
I blessed for my job, but this city took a toll on me and my budget. I landed in this city on the Dec. 29th full of energy and glee. Now after a year, exhaustion is becoming too familiar.
I am not saying NYC isn't a wonderful place, I just want to give you an honest review. This year, I've experienced life in a city that is expensive, fast-paced, a full of surprises. And top it all off my personal life dealt with the changes the most.
This year winter was pretty steady a bearable, despite a blizzard. I lived in Far Rockaway for the first few months of the year, which on borderline of New York City. I sit on the train for an hour and 30 minutes as I moved over the water and through JFK airport just to get to work. Whew! I understood at that point how exhausting this city truly is. The summer was hot and poppin', like usually in NYC. I attended several events, such as Minorities in Media Launch Party, Greatest Day Ever Music and more. My most memorable activity I participated in this summer was volunteering through Care More. Care More is a non-profit that was started millennials who wanted to express their concerns for the homeless. They partnered with Afro-Punk Music Festival and coordinated days to pass out hygienic kits to those in need. By the time the fall came, I was in need of rest. I found myself exploring my neighborhood of Harlem a bit more. With new season came many ups and down in my personal life. I faced tough decisions on people's roles in my life. I found myself meditating more and listening to music to clear my mind and find my voice. Coming soon is a playlist of the songs that helped me find my center.
