1 Year Later and "I'm Still Here"
In 2015, I reached my goal by garnering a job in NYC. I wanted to work at an advertising or PR agency in the big apple. So I left my jobs as a pizza delivery driver, Disney resort babysitter, Orange County substitute and part-time tutor to sleep on my sister's couch in Brooklyn for 30 days. During that span of time, I had seven interviews, several "coffee dates" and dropped my resume and portfolio off on many desks. The struggle was real, but it all became worth it when I received two job offers.
This time last year, I landed in JFK with three bags, filled with energy and glee ready to conquer the city. I daydreamed of how I would developed this name from myself by accessing certain groups of influencers and powerful people.
Fast forward to present time, and I'll admit the city doesn't glitter like it used to. I have made great connections with people and entities, but just like building Rome it will take time for these relationships to truly birth profitable products or/and goods.
Honestly, the only time I have a "pep in my step" is when I'm trying to conquer MTA staircases. I still don't miss driving, but I wish more of these stations will get power washed.
All in all, at the end of my long and exhausting day, I sit back and count my blessings. My job, my apartment, my family and support system keep me grateful. I understand conquering NYC will take time and strategy, and I'm on my way.
I thank God for helping me get here and "I'm still here" *Drake's voice*.
